My Quilting Kiddos

Before the end of the school year,
my kids voiced that they wanted to learn
to quilt.  How could I say no?

I would be teaching them a skill
that they could use for
the rest of their lives.
(Even if it is to hem a pair of pants.)

We first had to pick the pattern,
and this little cutie fit the part.

http://www.quiltcompany.com/brnegateapa.html

It is called Garden Tea Party
by The Quilt Company.
You can find the pattern HERE.

It is a great pattern with a mix
of piecing, applique, and a little embroidery.
Of course one of my children, wants to add all kinds
of extras to the pattern to give it flair.
To their dismay, I said,
"You can try that on the next quilt."
I just want them to get down all the
basics before adding the "FLAIR".

So here are the results of their very
first finished quilt blocks.

This one is a mix of Moda's Lucy's Crab Shack
and Noteworthy.
Such a cute fun and flirty mix of fabrics.

The second is all American.
It is an older Moda line, that
I had uncovered in my stash.
I believe it is American Banner Rose.

We used Heat n' Bond Lite, so for
the applique they will be able to
 sew it with ease.

I wanted them to pick fabrics that
they would love 10 years from now.

I am assisting them
in their color choices and cutting.
The rest has been my kiddos.

I just might have a quilter or two
in the family.  (Wouldn't that be fun?)

Now, I need to find the time to make
myself one of these cuties.

Say It With Flowers Blog Hop!

If you are new here, welcome!! If you follow my blog,
it is no surprise to you that flowers are my summer passion.
I love any and every type.
My yard is full of a huge variety.
I lean towards red and purple, because they attract the butterflies.
Here are just a few from my favorite garden area.

Columbine

Poppies

I would love to show you some more in bloom, but with the late snow we had in May, the garden is a little behind and I have to show you my little blog project.   Well, since I love to garden, I thought I would make a little something to be used in the garden this summer.
A handy gardening apron.  It has nice deep pockets, so I can slip my pruners in.  (I am always setting them down somewhere and can't find them.)

It is made from canvas and duck cloth, so it should be good and heavy duty for all my gardening needs.  And I appliqued the flower on the pockets for a little added detail.  Well, I just couldn't stop there.

But first a little back detail, My dad made me the most awesome little early birthday present.  It is my very own sewing cabinet.  And, of course, I love it.  Nice big drawers and a spot to set my serger and if you want, you can fold it all up.

Isn't just gorgeous?  A lot better than me using the dining room table.  (We were all getting very tired of that.)  My hubby had an office chair out in his garage waiting for a new home, but

It was a bit boring.  SO, how about some flowers on it.

Oh, so much better.  A little slip cover!!

And don't forget to stop by these Say It With Flower bloggers and check out their great projects......

EQ7 Dragonfly Pattern, Tutorial and Giveaway

chick block2

Let's just say I am a newbie to EQ7, but I really have been enjoying playing with it the last three months. I think it is always wise, (if you choose to get the program, which I love), to watch the videos. They have helped me tremendously, that and finding someone who can show you a few tricks. I was lucky and found Bea at Beaquilter. She has a running tutorial every Tuesday that has helped me tremendously. Now, on to my block and how I worked it all up.  Here is my finished block in EQ7........

I don't mind a breeze, but the wind in not one of my favorite things in the world, but today the sun is shining. So why don't you sit down on the patio and have a nice cup on coffee with me. Painted Clay Pots

Most of us have a clay pot sitting around the house.  Lately, I have been in love with adding a lot of color to our outdoor decor.  I thought I would add a splash of color to our pots.

Tricycle Herb Garden

Of course since the weather here was absolutely gorgeous this weekend, I was busy outside.  Like most families that have older children, they grow out of a few things.  One is their favorite wheeled transportation.  We have a tricycle that was destined to set in the shed for years or get donated to the nearest DAV, but I couldn't yet part with the little gem.  It was a Radio Flyer, only the paint was chipped and it need a few minor repairs.

Well, I told my hubby of my crazy idea and of course since it involved a spray paint can, he was all over it.  We picked up a light color spray on primer and two of my new favorite colors:  lime and turquoise.  He took it all apart, which did involve a whole lot of work.  Then he sanded up the rough spots, primed it, and painted it.  And this is what we came up with:

I had bought a couple metal planters last year and had no clue that this is what I would be using them for.  We used a drill and punched holes into the planters to allow the water to drain and I could use wire to tie them up to the main shaft of the tricycle.

Strawberry Bavarian

If you live in the states, the kick-off of BBQ season for the summer is this weekend with Memorial Day.  Some of us are fortunate and get to have a three day weekend and BBQ with our family and friends, while others are protecting our freedoms.  One of our favorite and easy dishes is Strawberry Bavarian.  It is so easy.  I received this recipe from my mother years back and the kids love it!  All you need is a

W.I.P. Wednesday #5

This week has more productive in the garden than at the sewing table.  (No surprise there.)  I bought this great new fabric that has big plans.

I am going to make a swim bag for my sis, parents and myself, if I get my act together.  Always so torn between two hobbies (or three or four)  that I love.  I am going to make it close to the Sail Away Tote, I designed a couple weeks back.

I have been working on my first Dresden.  I think that so far, I like it the best.  I haven't tried a whole lot of different blocks, but I really like these a lot.  I have heard that they are addicting.  (I can see why.)

I have also come to the realization that I am pretty sure I have so sort of disorder.  I found a crocheted pillow on Pinterest this weekend and fell in love.  I went crazy crocheting it for two nights.  A disorder, I tell you.  Here is just a little peak of what it looks like.  I love it, and will probably make 4 or 5 more at least.  I will show you the rest tomorrow.  Do you feel the suspense building?  Last, if you are a new visitor, I am having a giveaway and you can go here if you are interested.  It it ends on Friday.

I have three sewing projects in the process and
two crochet project half completed

 See you soon.
