A Few More Critters and Our Tree

Over the past few months, I have been
busy cross stitching away. I am
so close to catching up to the Animal Advent Stitch A-long
One cutie at a time..

a little thief and a pretty little pig,

the dapper Duncan the Dog,

Hamilton the Horse - showing off his super cool ugly sweater,

Pierre the Penguin,

and a sweet little rabbit.
All finished up and hanging out on our Christmas tree.

The kids keep bidding on which ornaments they want for their own.
I know that I will have to make another set of these.
What about you?
Have you made anything new for your tree this year?

I also finally had a chance on writing a
tutorial on how to make these.
You can find it on the Therm-O-Web
blog today.

Holy Scraps, Batman!!

So much for keep all my scraps contained in their
place.
I do believe the bin (from IKEA) has overflowed.
And some landed on the floor, EEK!

This is the second time in three years the
bin has become a little "CraZy".
The first I dumped it all in a bag
and gave away to a charity.

This time, I will probably do the same,
but I thought I would be a bit nicer.
And that is where my Accuquilt
came in handy.

GO! Fabric Cutter

While I was sewing, my sweet daughter,
spent time ironing the scraps and running
them through my cutter.
She used the 2 1/2" and the 4"
for all fabric pieces.

After a bit of ironing and cutting,
she ended with a hefty pile of fabric in
a spectrum of colors.

The 2 1/2" would work great on
your 1" English Paper pieced Hexagons.

I might have to save a few and work on
a quilt, composed of all
the other quilts from the past.

Sew, do you save your scraps, trash them,
or give them away?

I also decided to open a Facebook page.
You can check it out here.

Christmas Ornaments

This last week has been nice,
quiet and super productive.
We had a wonderful Christmas
with our family.
I think my brain was in serious
need of a vacation with no major commitments.

Here is a little taste of what
has been going on.

I have been working on cross-stitching
the last month.
Working on my Tammy Bag and
these little
Cuties.

Brooke Nolan has these
cross-stitch patterns that
are free of charge. I omitted
the number on the patterns.

I worked on these and
decided they would make
adorable little ornaments
for our tree.

I used 25th and Pine Precut Hexies
made a little Hexie sandwich with
some batting in the center.
Then I sewed my cross-stitch
down with 12 wt. Aurifil on
my sewing machine.
Ohh, and don't forget
the ribbon on top

I am "sew" looking forward
to the rest of the
patterns.

For now I am working on
the Spring Vintage pattern
which you can find here.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

AmysCreativeSide

Hello and welcome to my blog.
If you are a regular, you get the joy (haha) at looking at this quilt a second time. :)
I have been quilting for just over a year and I absolutely love it.
Since, I began quilting I just adored the hand-appliqued and quilted beauties that I spied around.
I dreamed of making my own.
This summer, I spent it working on this.

I finished up this quilt in about 8 weeks.
The hexagons are all hand-pieced together and then
hand appliqued onto the backing.

I wanted a modern approach to a traditional design.

I decided to then hand quilt it together with the same echoing
hexagons throughout the quilt.
I used Aurifil 12 wt. thread throughout.
It was quilted with 5 different colors.

I hope you enjoyed your little stop during the Blogger's Quilt Festival!

Not Your Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt and Giveaways

When I use to think of Hexagons, I thought of the old timey quilts that might rest upon great grandma's rocker.

Gorgeous hand-stitched masterpieces that covered the beds with wooden foot boards. One of the things I wanted to accomplish in my life (as a quilter) was to make a quilt mostly by hand and with mostly solids.

Well.....

After 8 weeks of working on one solitary sewing project this is what I finished. A little less than 24 hours before the deadline. (Of course, I didn't mean to cut it so close.)

WARNING: You have to expect a lot of pictures. It did take 8 weeks ;)

I used large precut Hexies from the Happy -Go - Lucky line of fabric for the centers and the solids are all colors from Timeless Treasure. (Which were not precuts) The hexagon flowers measure at about 13" across. There are almost 100 hexagons on my quilt.

For some added hexie fun, I added some to the corners. All the hexagons, are hand pieced using
50 wt. Aurifil thread.

The only parts of my quilt that were touched by a sewing machine is the pieced front that I hand appliqued the giant hexie flower to and

the back. (Which might have taken me 4 hours out of these weeks) Every other stitch was by my own hand. (and Band-Aid fingers)

Can I say, I LOVE it. It is unlike anything that I have designed and sewn. I don't know that I will hand quilt another quilt this large (84 inches square), but you never know. The only thing I regret is not keeping track of how many hours I spent working on my quilt.

And guess what in honor of my BIG finish. There is a giveaway. Well, actually Four. Just head over HERE and HERE to check it out.

Oh, I'm Crazy!!!

I decided about two weeks ago that I was going to hand quilt my Hexie project for the

I really have a hard time putting a sewing machine needle to all of that hand sewing and I really want nice clean lines for the project that I am working on. Let's Say I'm CRAZY! I have a few weeks to do a lot of hand quilting.

I finished up the back (I used a sewing machine for that) this week and made my little quilty sandwich. Well, since I was going to spend all that time hand quilting, I thought I should use a good thread. I kept seeing several quilters using Aurifil 12wt. thread. Well, of course my local quilt shop carries absolutely none. Zero!! So, I began my search for it and was led to Follow that Thread. I wanted to match my fabric perfectly, but the Internet just didn't help my color choice. I e-mailed Donna at Follow that Thread and she suggested that I send her some fabric samples. Within a little more than a week of the first e-mail, I had this gorgeous thread in my hands and it matches beautifully. Thank you, Donna!!!

Isn't so pretty?? I have done a little quilting with it already and I LOVE IT. It has a great shine to it and it is wonderful to work with. It reminds me of spun silk.

I also invested in a wooden hoop. It was relatively inexpensive and it is soooo much better than the little hoop I was using.

It is driving me crazy not to show you the whole thing, but August 21st is not too far away. Right? Here is a little bigger peek.

Wish me luck, I am going to need a bunch and probably a lot of Band-Aids for my fingers.

Summertime Hand Sewing

Summer is in full swing here with beautiful weather, blooms and a few finishes. I have been busy hand sewing all week. I finished up two of those vintage style tea towels.

Can I say again, I love these patterns. They don't require a lot of your time and they turn out super cute. Oh, and isn't that little cup so stylish with her little bow and eye lashes. The blackberries are freshly picked off our bushes. I am assuming that they were quite tasty because the berry bandits sniped them shortly after I snapped some pictures.

I started the third towel and of course how could I forget my hexies. I think that there are only two more hexies flowers left to sew together. (Maybe) As I said before, a small hexie project has turned into a LARGE one. I really can't wait to show all of you next month.

How can I leave you without some summer blooms, but I can't claim this gorgeous lily for my own. My sister has quite a green thumb when it comes to her flower and veggie garden. This is just one.....

of many!!!!!
Look at how many blooms was on one lily plant. Just beautiful!! It was it's own bouquet. There had to be 40+ blooms on the one stem.

Hope you are having a great summer or winter depending on which part of the world you live! ;)
