Sugar Cookie Scrub

I thought I would try another sugar scrub.  I have super sensitive skin and seem to have more allergy issues the older I get.  Which is not that much fun, but you learn to deal.  It calls for a few more ingredients than the Lemon Sugar Scrub, that I had made earlier.

W.I.P. Wednesday #6 - When Dresdens Attack

I have a confession.  I am addicted to making Dresdens.  I can't seem to get enough.  I dream about them.  I scheme about them.  They are in my every thought.  I finished two this week, both the same and both very different.  But alas I can only show you this one, I hear there is to be a Dresden Challenge coming up with prizes.  A little birdie told me at  Freshly Pieced.  I am quite excited since I can't get them out of my head.

I was going to send the other pillow off to the Sewing Shop this weekend, but I couldn't bare to see it leave.  I could decorate a whole room around the  two of them.  (Unless they are stolen in the night by a family member.)  My sis has an eye for the new one.  I might have to change the locks.

Found this great camo material for another one of my bags.  Too bad they are being left in the dust by the Attacking Dresdens!

W.I.P. - one messenger bag, two swim bags and two more Dresden pillows.
Accomplished - two Dresden pillows and one crocheted flower pillow.

Hopefully I can keep more of the Dresdens at bay next week!

Memorial Day

Here is the United States, we have Memorial Day.  A day in which we pay tribute to the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.  We also say Thank you to all the men and women who served and made it  home.  Most come with battle scars that are visible and more with ones that no one but them can even see.  So this day and every day, I say "Thank You", to the soldiers and their families that have served before and are currently serving.  Now, I will leave you with a some Red, White, and Blue.

Dresden Pillow - Mystery Project

I starting working on this as a competition for a local fabric shop.  They supplied the purple color and I had to come up with the rest.  It is the first Dresden I completed and I loved every minute, and I am actually working on a second.  I am so excited to show you my completion.

Strawberry Bavarian

If you live in the states, the kick-off of BBQ season for the summer is this weekend with Memorial Day.  Some of us are fortunate and get to have a three day weekend and BBQ with our family and friends, while others are protecting our freedoms.  One of our favorite and easy dishes is Strawberry Bavarian.  It is so easy.  I received this recipe from my mother years back and the kids love it!  All you need is a

Flower Power Pillow

If you have any girls, big or small in your life, have I got the pillow for you.  It is made from (of course) Lily's Sugar and Cream yarn.  I found the pillow picture from Attic 24 on Pinterest and fell in love.  It was the perfect pillow for all the gals in my life.  It took a bit to find the original pattern and here it is:  Pretty Petals Potholder. To make the pillow, you just keep adding 15 stitches per row instead of stopping at the original potholder size.  Since the pattern called for a much smaller yarn and a different size hook, I had to change a few things.    I used a G hook and 10 different colored skeins of yarn.  I did end up with a little left over.   If you need any help with the pattern, don't be afraid to ask.  I will try and help you out.

W.I.P. Wednesday #5

This week has more productive in the garden than at the sewing table.  (No surprise there.)  I bought this great new fabric that has big plans.

I am going to make a swim bag for my sis, parents and myself, if I get my act together.  Always so torn between two hobbies (or three or four)  that I love.  I am going to make it close to the Sail Away Tote, I designed a couple weeks back.

I have been working on my first Dresden.  I think that so far, I like it the best.  I haven't tried a whole lot of different blocks, but I really like these a lot.  I have heard that they are addicting.  (I can see why.)

I have also come to the realization that I am pretty sure I have so sort of disorder.  I found a crocheted pillow on Pinterest this weekend and fell in love.  I went crazy crocheting it for two nights.  A disorder, I tell you.  Here is just a little peak of what it looks like.  I love it, and will probably make 4 or 5 more at least.  I will show you the rest tomorrow.  Do you feel the suspense building?  Last, if you are a new visitor, I am having a giveaway and you can go here if you are interested.  It it ends on Friday.

I have three sewing projects in the process and
two crochet project half completed

 See you soon.

Mystery Project

I had posted last week that a local fabric shop was having a little sewing contest.  The rules entailed using less than six fabric in which one of them was a mystery until you picked it up in store.  I picked up a pretty little purple.  The project also could not be any larger that 20" x 20".  I usually like to make bags and totes, but I am always up for  something new.  I had never tried a Dresden Plate before and thought how timeless their beauty really is.  I also was looking for something functional, so I decided on a pillow.  This is what I have so far...

I decided to echo the Dresden in quilting.  I still have quite a bit of quilting left to do.  The deadline is the 1st of June, so I best get busy.  Next week, it will have a final reveal.

I also have been working on a crochet project in which I hope to have completed by tomorrow. For the first time, I  have a giveaway.  (Which you can check out here)  The weather was just beautiful here and it is so hard to get any sewing done when there is so much to do.   I planted three flats of flowers, 2 rose bushes and 13 strawberry plants over the weekend.  We tried something different with the strawberries and if it works, I will enjoy sharing.  I do love the summer time!!!   Here are some of my peonies.  The burgundy one just bloomed today.

Infinity Scarf

I crocheted an infinity scarf for a member of my family and she loved it.  I used Patons Lace yarn.  It is so fine and delicate looking.  They have a variety of colors and some that had sequins.  I might have to try one with a little bling next. You can use this in a variety of ways: as an infinity scarf, and wrap over your ears. We tried it as a wrap around your shoulder, but it was too large around and needed to be a bit wider.  You could have lots of fun using it several different ways. Sorry, I only have one pic of the variety of uses.

W.I.P. Wednesday #4

Is it really already Wednesday?  The week has gone by so quickly, but I have got a few projects completed.  I finished my Eskimo Yo-Yo.  I was so busy sandwiching it all together that I forgot to put the other border around the edge.  Too late now.

I tried to put some free motion stars into the brown around the girl.  It was the first time I tried a shape.  Usually, I just make straight lines or Stipple.  (I believe that is what it is called.)  One or two of the stars are a little wonky.

And if you missed what other projects I finished this week......

And this is what I have to look forward to next week.  The local fabric store is having a competition with a mystery fabric.  This is what I got picked.  It is a really gorgeous purple color.  You are only allowed to use six color including this little beauty and it can only be 20" x 20".  It has been keeping me up for the last couple nights.  Thoughts of projects dancing through my head.

Three Sheets to the Wind

When you make a title like that, you expect for someone to be out all night partying until they had to be driven home.  I can say I don't have any experience in that field.  So it can only mean one other thing,  I have finished another applique wall hanging.  It is another example of a painting by Barbara LaVallee.  I once again had the pattern purchase for me at a little shop in Anchorage, AK.  You can find it here.  If they don't have it on there website, their shop is super friendly and can assist you, so give them a ring.

Mother's Day Pinwheel Table Runner

I stayed up a little late just to finish the table runner for my Mother.  I could have quilted it a little differently but would have been up all night.

These were my first pin wheels and they were super simple using this tutorial from the Missouri Star Quilt Company.  I quilted it using a variegated thread in golden tones.   I used a Moda Charm Pack.  Please forgive me, I put this together awhile ago and cannot remember the fabric line.  It worked perfect for my Mom's color scheme in her house.

I thought that I would share my Mother's Day flowers.

Both are different types of Columbines.

Happy Mother's Day!

Newborn Elf Hat

As I posted a few days ago, a photographer family friend wanted me to crochet her a few hats.  She had sent me this link to Neanners Shop.  In there, she had the cutest elf style hat and it had a pattern.  It is not very often that you find the exact project that you want and it has a FREE pattern.  Here is the link to get you there so you can make one for your newborn also: Crochet munchkins Hat Pattern.  Of course the tail is super long and should only be worn under strict supervision.
(Since the posting of this: the pattern is now UNAVAILABLE)

The directions were relatively easy.  I think I might have to try making a larger size for my munchkins.
