Vanity Desk

I often have hair brained ideas.
Some of them my husband rolls his eyes
and shakes his head at
and others he's the one encouraging my madness.
This one was a little of both.
One of the kiddos was in desperate need
of a little room makeover.
It was brown and I really
couldn't stand looking at it much longer and neither
could she.

 It has been a
a long process of painting different pieces of furniture.
Ripping out carpet and painting a floor,
which I will show off later.
Now, I thought I would show off
her vanity/computer desk.

We bought some premade cabinets at the local home improvement store.
My hubby and I spent the whole day priming and
painting the different components of her new desk.

Yes, we painted oak cabinets.
I think my husband shed a tear as the paint was being brushed on.
The pink is Valspar Frosty Berry and
we did the old-fashioned brush it all on.
I wanted it to look very girlie so we added
furniture legs to the front.
They are mostly just for show, but
sometimes it is all about the details.

Every vanity needs a mirror!
Someone gave us the mirror but it was gold.
It now wears Frosty Berry oh so well.

It turned out even better than I had planned.
I can't wait to show you the whole floor finished.

What's the Word?

Some of my favorite blogs have picked a word of the year.
Words are definitely something to live by, right?
I really don't believe much in New Year's resolutions.
I figure if you want to change something,
why are you waiting for the New Year.
Words have a great meaning, once they are
written or spoken they are quite powerful.

Let's just say that the last few weeks have been a stressful time.
One of my family members has needed me more than blogging,
my favorite sewing or handwork project
and I have come to the realization of what my
word of the year is.....

Yes, I know what you are thinking.
What an odd word?
I do agree, it is a bit strange.
But as my life continues to change and
evolve, I want to be the cream.
The individual that rises to the top.
During the last couple week, I have
realized who has gone above and beyond
what was expected of them.  The best of the best or
the CREAM!!
And then there has been the others
who have just chose to do nothing
or have sat idly by.
I, myself have tried to be the
cream, but there have been times that
I have complained or have not been
the person I strive to be.

So, This is why I choose my word,
Strange as it might be!
My sister found a quote which
resonates with my word of 2014.

I give more of myself to others than anyone expects.

I am unsure who said it
but they are words to live by.

P.S.  I hope you join me on the 20th when I share my Kona Blog
Hop project.  I can't wait to get back to my sewing machine.  :)

My First Tammy Bags

Oh, where exactly does the time fly?
I have been helping my kiddos finish up
their semester work, helping them study and
squeezing a few hours in of sewing.
I have a few special little girlies who I
did get a couple presents completed for.

It is my very first Tammy Bag.
Isn't it so cute?
I just love this Riley Blake material.
So appropriate for a little girl.
I also finished up another
If you can guess what the recipient of this loves?
Hard to figure out, right?
My niece picked out the material a
couple months back and I was waiting to
work up one of these adorable bags up with it.
I used Aurifil 12 wt. to sew the frame onto
the purse.  It worked like a charm.
Plus the colors that I had used for
my hexagon quilt matched beautiful.
I plan to add a couple lip glosses
and maybe a finger nail polish to each of them.
A great little gift for any age girl.
I know that I will have to make myself
one to put my make-up in.
The pattern was super easy and only took a little
more than a couple hours to whip up.
The hand sewing took the longest.
(I, of course, cheated a bit
and only hand sewed the purse frame)
They were well worth the time.

Only 18 days left!!!
Back to the Workshop.
