All Quilted Up!

After going to a quilt shop
in March, I decided to do
things a bit different.
Standing in line, I spoke to
two fellow quilters.
One had stated that she had 70
quilt tops that were competed,
but not quilted.
Yikes, 70!
I felt the few that I had
in my room were getting out of hand
Like this one,

that had been sitting in
my sewing room, since September of 2014.
I absolutely love the quilt,
but why was a waiting to get it quilted?
I didn't want to end up with 70 quilt tops
laying in my sewing room.
(I have about 10, which is way more than enough)

Granted, I love quilting, but
the thought of having all those pieces
to be unfinished got me thinking about
it isn't really a quilt until it is all done.

I also had my Nutty Christmas quilt
in this pile of the unfinished.

Which dated back to last year
Another one, that I just love!!

I really didn't like the thought of
all of the labor that I did and would
love to share on my walls, beds,
or as gifts, but instead it was in a box,
or stuffed in a cupboard
and counted as one of the countless
unfinished quilts.
Aren't quilts supposed to be used
and loved?

After this little dilemma,
I decided that I was not
going to add anymore to my pile.

My favorite part of the whole
quilting process is designing
and piecing.
I am a ok quilter, but
I wanted to send these both off
to a professional.
finished my Koi Quilt, so I let her
have a hand at both of these and
I knew that she could do a
much better job than I
could do.
Let's just say,
I love them to pieces.

Every detail was just perfect.
I absolutely can't wait to have it
gracing my living room wall
next to our Christmas tree this year.

Then, there was my sewing room quilt.

She put so many adorable little details
in the quilting.

I absolutely love it as well.

So, no more having all
these pretty unfinished quilts laying
folded, and in the unfinished pile.
I would hate the thought of these
quilts that gave me joy in the creating,
not being used and enjoyed.
What a waste that would be!

I am sorry if I have hit a cord
with any of you that have those 70
quilt tops sitting around.
Why did you create them,
just so that they could gather dust,
fade, and not be loved?
So go and get those
lovelies all quilted up.
There is someone out there who
would just love one of the 70.
That someone just might be you!!

  2. Love the dimension your quilter added to complet these beauties. It's been bothering me to have six unquilted tops, plus the 4 I'm either machine or hand quilting at the moment.

  3. Beautiful quilting! Congrats on the finishes! I have way too many quilt tops in my quilt closet. Not 70, but more than 10. I think I am scared to count them and find how much I am slacking. Finished is always better than perfect ... I am never going to make a perfect quilt anyway ... :-) Pat

  6. It's nice to have a quilt top finished, but so satisfying to have it quilted and able to use! Glad you forged ahead to get these beauties used!

  7. I have around 50 quilt tops waiting for me to put them on the frame and quilt them! I did great to stick with a single quilt from first cut through the last stitch in the binding until I spent 7 months house/pet sitting for my daughter (who lived across the country) while she was deployed. I could not take my longarm with me and had little to do outside of piecing, so I made a ton of quilt tops! When I got home, customer quilts took first place in line so my quilt tops just sat waiting patiently. Now that I've spent the last 2 years in another state caring for my dad, more quilt tops are accumulating! When I finally get home for good, I'll only be using my sewing machine to create backings and bindings! I really don't want my beautiful quilt tops to just be used by my daughter who will inherit all my quilting stuff just to learn how to quilt!!

  9. Guilty as charged LOL! I had more than 70 UFO's...a lot were table runners and none were queen sized quilts, but still.....I turned 60 two years ago and they finally started bothering me. My sister was here for a couple of weeks and she helped me make a list and I've been chipping away at it and will confess on my blog one of these days when I have cut the pile in half!! Feeling good about getting these things done. I love piecing blocks. I found your blog via Kathy's blog (Kathy has also inspired me to keep working on the UFO's). Thanks for the encouragement and will keep plugging away at it. Until...."squirrel"....a new project begs my attention! LOL I love how these two quilts turned out! I have been sending quite a few to a long arm quilter too to help me get caught up :-)

  11. Your quilts are amazing. I am getting a pretty big pile of quilt tops. I also have 3 quilts all pinned and ready for me to sit down and quilt. Thank you for the inspiration to get busy and get them done! You are right, it's not a quilt until it's quilted and the binding is on.
