Let's just say I am a newbie to EQ7, but I really have been enjoying playing with it the last three months. I think it is always wise, (if you choose to get the program, which I love), to watch the videos. They have helped me tremendously, that and finding someone who can show you a few tricks. I was lucky and found Bea at Beaquilter. She has a running tutorial every Tuesday that has helped me tremendously. Now, on to my block and how I worked it all up. Here is my finished block in EQ7........
First, I opened a new block, then to EasyDraw + PatchDraw.
You need to make sure that you are on the Applique tab. (It is on the bottom of your screen.) I started first by drawing the dragonfly's head. You need to go to the little heart. If you hold down the button, all these great little shapes pop up.
Click on the circle and Draw it the size you wish.
Next, was the body. I chose to free draw the dragonfly body.
You can resize it by either using the squares around the shape or by right clicking and resizing the shape from the box. Then I moved the body with the head.
On to the wings, I used side menu again. The little leaf looking shape on the end is what I used. Make one wing and shape it and the rest are easy.
Here is my first wing. If you use the box off on the right side you can click on your shape and change it by moving the blue lines to your desired wing design. I then moved the wing into place. I still wasn't happy with the shape so a bit more tweaking.
Now, the easy part. Click on your wing shape, then right click and then copy and paste.
Here is our second wing.
To get the wing in the direction you wish. Once again, right click on your mouse, in the box it has the option to rotate the selected shape. I did a little at a time 10 to 15 degrees to get it exactly where I wanted.
After, you get it where you want. Copy and paste both wings.
Next use the flip button on the top on your worktable. It looks like a blue arrow tip. Just above the 4 inch mark.
There you go. The basic block is all finished up.
I thought it need a little character, so I added eyes.
And a few hearts and a little extra color. All using the same methods as before.
So, I hope you liked my first little EQ7 tutorial and if you would like this pattern, HERE it is!
