W.I.P. Mountians of Potholders & Sweetwater

Well, my sewing machine is official done for.  It is only now to be used as a light duty machine.  Nothing I ever do is light duty.  It had just been in the shop in February and now back again in July.  They said no more of the same, I have ran it way too hard.  So, I bought myself a new sewing machine.   I think I have a bit of buyers remorse.  I haven't bought a sewing machine for over (at least) 15 years and this new one is sitting in the shrink wrap still.  I intend to unwrap it, I just usually don't spend that much on myself EVER!  I know it is an investment that everyone will benefit from.

It is the first Janome that I have ever owned.  I hope that it is a good machine!  Well, since I was unable to get any sewing done this week.  I still have my cupcake bike pouches that I am working on and I had to show you this fabric I picked up.

It is Sweetwater's line Mama Said Sew! for Moda.

I am a complete sucker for Black, Whites and Greys.  Let's just say I LOVE them!  I can't wait to get busy on some project with this line.  It is soooo cute!

Since my sewing machine needle was not productive, my crochet needle was.  I have finished a total of  eight Ring around the Rosie potholders!

I have a total of twenty to complete.  I thought that I would get a jump start on my Christmas presents.  I am a procrastinator. (Most of the time)  I have super good intentions of finishing a whole bunch of projects for presents and then I am up until 2 a.m. on Christmas Day.  I am sooo trying not to do that this year.

I have three in the making that won't take too long to get finished up.

And for a ending note, a yellow day lily from my flower garden.

The lovely places I link to.......

  1. What a strange thing to tell you to do with your sewing machine, it is not as if you are running up pairs of jeans every day! Enjoy unwrapping and getting to know your new machine.

  5. Stopping by from To Sew With Love. Congrats on getting the Janome. I see them at the fabric store and would love to own one eventually. I have a Brother I got this year (my first machine as I'm a novice sewer), but it seems to be faring well so far!

    Have a great day!

    1. Jess,
Congrats on starting to sew. I enjoy sewing so much and there are so many pretty fabric lines and great ideas out there now. I had a very generic sewing machine for a long time and beat it up pretty good. Hope your sewing machine lasts you years to come!

  6. I am so in love with those potholders!! Do you know if the pattern is still available? I'm not too good at crocheting right now but I think this would be a great pattern for my Aunt-in-law. She's a master crocheter!
And that Sweetwater Fabric is amazing, can't wait to see what you do with it!

  7. Well Janome is the number one seller in the world......they sell more than anyone! I have an old Bernina and a new Janome set up in my sewing room and I have to say I love them both but the Janome is just not as solid as my old 1030 Bernina.
Good luck getting to know and love your new machine, don't feel guilty, you're worth it :0)

    Happy Sewing

    1. Kim,
My old machine was the cheaper version of a Bernina. It was sooo good, but most of the dealers around the area are now sewing Janome so I thought I would give it a try. I hope I have good luck with it. It is always difficult giving up on an old friend!

  9. I've had a Janome for probably 10 years now and it has been a good one. I've made it work pretty hard and it's kept up.
I hope you get to unwrap it soon!

It was such a great deal. I was in luck that my sewing machine broke down this last week. Who knows maybe I will send you another to match!

  11. I like those intertwining hot pads.
I'm hearing more and more in blogs about the Janome sewing machines. I've not seen that brand around here.
I want to go to the sewing shop and put myself a nice machine on lay away, but can't keep enough money in my wallet for the down payment.

    1. Marsha,
All we have is Janome in the sewing shops around here. It was on super sale, so it wasn't too bad on the budget. Hope you find a couple extra bucks, so you can get a nice machine also. Thanks for stopping by!

  17. Ooh, ooh, Christmas in July!! Which model Janome did you purchase? I am saving pennies for one (well, dollars~imagine how many pennies it would take!!)
All my friends have the 6600p, but I'm kind of thinking of the Horizon.

    1. Thank you, I use Lily's Sugar and Cream yarn. It is 100% cotton and a #4 for weight. Bernat has a yarn that is similar.
