For the Sewing Room

Thanks to Carla of Creatin' in the Sticks who did
an absolutely amazing job as cheerleader
and to Madame Samm of Sew We Quilt
for all of her hard work as the head cheerleader.

I don't have a "Sewing Room."  I would
say it is more of a sewing wall.
I don't have very much room to keep a lot
of extra things in this area, but
the kids do join me quite often at my space.
They do some ironing or visit so
I made them a quilt to sit
on the bench and warm up if need be
while they visit.

I decided to practice my Ruffles
since we have a little
Ruffle hop coming up.
I heard someone say that
everything looks better with a Ruffle.
Hmmm... I wonder who that was?

 Let's
just say after all the practice I had on this
I should be good to go.  Right?

I did a little thread painting on the center
corset.  I have never been more nervous doing
it on a project before.  If I messed it up it would
have been a little disastrous.
I also used Aurifil 12wt. #1147 in that coordinating
color in my sewing machine again for the thread
coming out of the giant needle.
I love how it turns out and will continue to
play with it a lot more.

Wake up to Kona Hop

Hello, Sunrise!!!

There is nothing like a beautiful bunch a Kona fabric,
 Aurifil thread, Amanda Murphy's book
And a blog hop to get the creative juices flowing.
Thanks again to our lovely sponsors!!
After, drooling (shh, don't tell anyone)
over Amanda's amazing
designs, I decided to try this...

I made one pillow and it was lonely so....
I made another.

The pattern was from Amanda Murphy's
Color Essentials book and I couldn't be happier with them.
I used some geometric quilting.
It was a lot of twisting the fabric
but it worked so well with Amanda's
Designs.

Well, what do you do with a lot of extra fabric?
You make another project

It was my own design.
A Little Sunshine!

I used Aurifil 12 wt. in my sewing machine to outline the star
and I loved the results.  I found a little tutorial here.

Vanity Desk

I often have hair brained ideas.
Some of them my husband rolls his eyes
and shakes his head at
and others he's the one encouraging my madness.
This one was a little of both.
One of the kiddos was in desperate need
of a little room makeover.
It was brown and I really
couldn't stand looking at it much longer and neither
could she.

 It has been a
a long process of painting different pieces of furniture.
Ripping out carpet and painting a floor,
which I will show off later.
Now, I thought I would show off
her vanity/computer desk.

We bought some premade cabinets at the local home improvement store.
My hubby and I spent the whole day priming and
painting the different components of her new desk.

Yes, we painted oak cabinets.
I think my husband shed a tear as the paint was being brushed on.
The pink is Valspar Frosty Berry and
we did the old-fashioned brush it all on.
I wanted it to look very girlie so we added
furniture legs to the front.
They are mostly just for show, but
sometimes it is all about the details.

Every vanity needs a mirror!
Someone gave us the mirror but it was gold.
It now wears Frosty Berry oh so well.

It turned out even better than I had planned.
I can't wait to show you the whole floor finished.

What's the Word?

Some of my favorite blogs have picked a word of the year.
Words are definitely something to live by, right?
I really don't believe much in New Year's resolutions.
I figure if you want to change something,
why are you waiting for the New Year.
Words have a great meaning, once they are
written or spoken they are quite powerful.

Let's just say that the last few weeks have been a stressful time.
One of my family members has needed me more than blogging,
my favorite sewing or handwork project
and I have come to the realization of what my
word of the year is.....

Yes, I know what you are thinking.
What an odd word?
I do agree, it is a bit strange.
But as my life continues to change and
evolve, I want to be the cream.
The individual that rises to the top.
During the last couple week, I have
realized who has gone above and beyond
what was expected of them.  The best of the best or
the CREAM!!
And then there has been the others
who have just chose to do nothing
or have sat idly by.
I, myself have tried to be the
cream, but there have been times that
I have complained or have not been
the person I strive to be.

So, This is why I choose my word,
Strange as it might be!
My sister found a quote which
resonates with my word of 2014.

I give more of myself to others than anyone expects.

I am unsure who said it
but they are words to live by.

P.S.  I hope you join me on the 20th when I share my Kona Blog
Hop project.  I can't wait to get back to my sewing machine.  :)
